Kennel number: P5.
Name: Jared.
Breed: Royal Fox.
Ranking: The playmate of the royal children; set to be in an arranged marriage with the princess.
Gender: Male.
Orientation: Bisexual.
Age: In [quad] he's just a kit; in [anthro] he's around 11 years old.
Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:
To me, there is no Bane without Jared; and there is no Jared without
Bane. In my mind these two were just destined to be together, and when
Syra donated him, I had my eye on him; but automatically assumed
somebody would snatch him up the day he arrived. For some reason the
days just kept slipping past and others overlooked him, going for other
characters; but my gaze remained on him and I just knew I had to try out
when I had a free week. He is a very insightful, calm character, which
is something I don't frequently come across; and I know I would love and
use him if I got him. c: I already have planned a nice page for them on
my character site if I win them both. <3
Personality:
Calm, insightful, and graceful, when Jared was born he was destined to
become the well-coveted royal playmate. He came with the loyalty and
attitude that was needed for any of them, and even as he grew, he
remained calm and courteous.
Without raising his voice, Jared can
create an atmosphere in a room; and either make it suffocatingly
difficult to withstand or easier for whoever is present. How he acts
seems to react and reflect on everyone else. What's the most interesting
about this possession of emotions is the fact that Jared has little
awareness that he does this, and will sometimes express brief flickers
of interest when people speak to him about it.
But there is one thing
that makes Jared as he is, and that specifically is the presence of the
demon that lurks inside his head. Ever since he was born he was
well-aware what the disembodied voice was, as his nursemaid was aware of
the beast and explained what it was doing and why it was there. This
demon keeps Jared in check; in his bloodline is a hostile awareness of
others and a sharp possessive nature, and the beast that stays there is
merely a boundary that dulls his emotions.
He can be considered
almost distant and detached, but this is due to the demon himself;
because he has little opportunity to focus on somebody else when his
demon is screeching in his head. The singular thing that can cut through
this voice, however, is Bane, his best friend and closest trusted
acquaintance. The slight moments of clarity she allows him is what has
always attracted him to the young 'boy' he sees, and he spends much time
with Bane, seeking a way to quiet the demon.
Because of his blind
loyalty and casual trust he always gives to others, he has served the
crown well; and just recently found out he was destined to marry the
princess. Unfortunately, he has little affection for her; but his demon
has pointedly explained that without his blood in the incestuous royal
bloodline, they will merely sink further into illness and disease; and
in a twisted way, Jared sees this act as a reward to the throne.

Other:
He is in an arranged marriage with the royal princess, who is only
about 13 right now. He dislikes her and she him; but because his parents
wish to use his friendship with her to twist to their own success he is
forced into it anyway. As a child, his nursemaid [who was a hedge
witch], delivered Jared as a stillborn. She traded with a devil to get
his soul and life back; but now, unfortunately, he is plagued by that
demon living in his head.

Kennel number: F31.
Real Name: Princess Neque [roughly this means "worth nothing" in Latin].
Known Name: Bane.
Breed: Red Calico Bear.
Ranking: Truly the heir [princess] apparent; believes she's merely a common peasant.
Gender: Female [but dresses/acts male].
Orientation: Straight [crush is Jared].
Age: In [quad] she's just a cub; in [anthro] she's around 11 years old.
Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:
For some reason when I saw Bane I just knew that I had to try out for
her. She is a beautiful little lady and her markings are just exquisite;
I realize she is going to be hard to duplicate and while that usually
distances me from a character, with her it just brings me closer. x3
When I got Syra's permission to give them anthro forms too, I just
couldn't help myself, and could picture her immediately next to Jared, a
crush she cannot get to. The birth of her character has inspired me to
continue with this specific universe, the idea of a kingdom lacking its
true princess and with bloodlines so diluted and incestuous that the
current princess is stooped to marrying her royal playmate. I have a lot
of characters to fill in but I know that if I get her she will be
cherished with writing, art, and a separate page on my character site.
Personality:
Although Bane is well-aware that she's female, she has spent her entire
childhood masquerading as a male; and eventually the general mindset
and attitude of the young boys she hung out with rubbed off on her.
She
loves being dirty and will soil even the most graceful of outfits; and
the pressure of wearing something tight and clingy when she is forced to
work in the royal castle is something she detests. Ironically enough,
she admires the riches and glory of the royal family and has always
wished that one day she might become one; unknowing that she already is
one.
Her closest friend is that of Jared she spends almost all of her
time chasing after him; their relationship is hilariously amusing to
outside people who know little of the inner workings, but unfortunately
even Jared himself doesn't know she's a girl. He is the single one she
wishes to tell, but she sees the royal advisor as her paternal figure
and he has made her swear she will tell nobody of her gender. This
alluring secret used to be the main focal point of her life, unraveling
what it all meant; but lately, caught up in childhood and the castle
work she has forgotten all about it.
Despite being raised outside of
the castle, Bane's bloodline naturally has the elegant grace and allure
of all of the kings and queens before her; so she moves with the majesty
of a predator, with smooth motions and casual expressions. Her face can
be read like an open book; she has no talent at hiding what she truly
feels. Unfortunately, this has landed her in consistent trouble
specifically with the kitchen staff, where she often sasses and
backlashes with every bossing her around, as rather then being led, Bane
loves to lead.
Likes:
The royal family, although sometimes this can transform into envy.
Working at the castle kitchen because she feels like she's doing
something special. Her best friend Jared. Bright colors, fabric that's
soft and gentle, friends with good attitudes, friends at all. She loves
the royal advisor and sees him as a paternal figure. The idea that
somewhere out there a family exists that loves her, because she thinks
she's an orphan.
Dislikes:
Feeling like she doesn't belong, or doesn't deserve things. Knowing
that she cannot show who she truly is, specifically that she cannot tell
Jared that she's a girl and likes him. Occasionally she dislikes the
royal family. Although she enjoys working hard, she doesn't like working
alone and would rather be in a group setting.
Other:
Eyes are a gentle, honeysuckle amber shade. x3 She has a single
true-blood sister, who is the current princess [although younger then
her], and neither of them know they are related. Her sister has already
been promised to marry her royal playmate, Jared, who is Bane's closest
friend; and who she secretly has a crush on.
Their Background:
[in the royal castle]
The
bedroom was surprisingly dark for a moment after the birth of the new
princess; it was barren of energy and livelihood, devoid of the laughter
of the queen rejoicing in her new baby daughter. Instead, it was
decorated only with the regal form of the queen who sat idly in her bed
and glared at the two who still lingered in the room. Her expression
betrayed that something was wrong, for there was no afterglow smile on
her tender lips.
It seemed a conversation was brewing, one the queen
had little patience to partake in, for while her nurse begged at her
feet, she blatantly ignored her. You see, the queen did not want a
little princess... she had wanted a son. The girl with the calico hair
was merely another intruder on her mourning of her missing prince.
But
the young nurse maid tried one more time, clutching her fingers into
the bed sheets and peering up at her queen. “Please, my lady. Please.
Don’t just throw her out.”
But the ruler turned her stiff chin away
and set her mouth into a sharp frown; the shadows from the hanging
lantern above cast a dark shadow across her beautiful face. “Get out.
Everybody out.” Her advisor clung the baby closer to his chest and moved
as though to set her down and the queen screeched, “And take that beast
with you!”
The advisor started, swallowed, and gave her one last
try. “My queen; at least give this child a name.” It was the least he
could ask of her, and she turned her frigid eyes to him with a dignified
snort.
“...fine." She murmured, and met the gentle amber eyes of her newborn daughter. "Call that mutt Neque.”
He
had no chance to argue with the gruesome name and scurried out the door
when she threatened him with a delicate porcelain vase; and once in the
hall he found he had no idea what to do. He could not take the child
himself, as he was sure the queen expected him to murder her; and so
with a soft swallow and a furtive glance at the castle guards, he
sprinted through the night with the heir apparent wrapped in his woolen
cloak and went to the single house he knew would let her in.
[in the village below]
The
labor was intense, exhaustive, and the nurse was at her wits end. She
had not brought the proper medication, had not seen ahead enough to
excuse her meager supplies of painkillers and bring some of those; and
the woman wallowed in her bed clutching a dead baby to her chest and
screaming profanities at the nurse maid who had tried to help her
deliver a stillborn.
The nurse was young, too young for a duty of
this magnitude, and she didn't know what to do; but she was also a hedge
witch, and although she was blessed with very little power, there was
enough.
It took a few hours until the mother finally fell into a
restless sleep, plagued by dreams of her dead son and the fact that he
would never see the light of day; and it was then that she snuck
thieving fingers into her embrace and stole away the stillborn, taking
him into the night.
It was a spell that had been performed a thousand
times before, and as the nurse maid coaxed the lurking demon from his
otherworldly realm and into the fragile shell of the baby, he began to
cry. He wailed with his new life, misunderstanding the curse that had
just been laid upon him, and clutched at the nurse's cloak when she
carefully picked him up.
But it was only then she remembered she
could not return to the house of the mother with her dead son, and so
she stowed this nameless boy into her jacket and murmured to him,
"Jared. Jared is what your mom wanted to call you." It was mainly to
soothe both of them but he reacted to the name and fell asleep against
her bosom, too young to care about the world; too young to sense that
something was awry with the voice that whispered and stretched within
his head.
And the hedge witch, too distracted by her night's journey
to sense the evil that she had borne within him, took the boy to the one
figure she knew would take him.
